Lazy Sundays demand for hearty breakfasts! But thanks to being swamped with work off late (even on weekends), we never made time for that ‘Sunday Breakfast’. Until one fine day we decided to wake up early and drive to Indiranagar to finally try out the family-run café , Red Fork. Chef Xerxes (the young man behind this café) and his Masterchef like culinary skills were so often talked about in the Bangalore food scene, that we just gravitated towards trying it out.
Charming & Cozy
Upon entering the cafe we were greeted with a warm and cozy ambiance filled with quirky nooks and corners. Airy and spacious, it comprises an al fresco dinning spot in the front which opens into the indoor seating area. We got to know that Daddy’s Deli (Parsi restaurant) & Red Fork interestingly co exist in the same space. So if you’d like to widen your palette and try both, feel free to do so.
Sunday being a busy day, the place was packed, with people waiting outside. Hence we felt the service was a wee bit slow. However, Mrs. Zarine (owner) approached us very pleasantly and handed us the menus promising that she would make up for the time lost. She explained how they have 2 kinds of menus out of which one keeps evolving every fortnight to ensure that guests are always experimenting and trying something new. So look out for the menu written on the chalk boards.
Served up with Love
With the small appetites we have, we decided to order two dishes – The Cubano & Pig Out along with Chocolate Milkshake. Thick and refreshing with hints of cocoa nibs was what made the Milkshake stand out. However it was not something to write home about.
The first time we tried a Cuban Sandwich was on our trip to the US and since then we have never really come across anything as close. But the Cubano at Red Fork filled with pulled pork, gherkins, hams, english mustard, scamorza, caramelized onions and habanero mayo nails it on the head!
If you’re looking to fill the void with perfectly poached eggs, then Pig Out is your bae! Think homemade bread loaded with shredded pork, homemade beans, poached eggs and chilly hollandaise. Cooked to perfection, the meat was succulent and juicy and the beans added a sweet and savoury twist to the dish. Reinventing a sauce like hollandaise with a ting of spice was simply genius. All we can say is cheers to fabulous & fresh food at affordable prices.
Stuffed to our hearts content we couldn’t try anything more. Mrs. Zarine surprised us when she handed over our bill along with meringues served in a cute lil cup. Who doesn’t love free stuff ! We almost died when we popped these babies into our mouths; melted within seconds. Hence, we are surely coming back for more, especially to try their desserts.
